About AlwaysNear

Caleb Berry, founder of AlwaysNear

The accident

I'm Caleb Berry. In 2025, I was in an e-scooter accident in Lisbon. I needed emergency brain surgery, a craniotomy, and I spent 43 days in the hospital. Complications included a staph infection and blood clots.

Repeating the same news

More than 100 people wanted updates. For me, repeating the same news, again and again, helped inspire AlwaysNear.

Why a delegate matters

There are moments when the person everyone is waiting to hear from cannot send the update. AlwaysNear is built so you can invite someone you trust before that moment. They accept in the app. After they accept, they can send for you, using the groups you already set up, and they can help when you cannot send it yourself.

They cannot see contact phone numbers or email addresses, and they cannot send before they accept. When an approved delegate sends, the message says it was sent by an approved delegate.

Why AlwaysNear exists

AlwaysNear exists so that one private update can reach everyone who needs to know, by text or email. They do not need the app. You are not posting it where strangers can see it, and you are not keeping a thread alive. AlwaysNear is made by Zonafy LLC.

What it is meant to feel like

Private, clear, and calm. You say it once, when you are ready. The people you chose hear the same thing. That is the whole job of the app: one update, to the people you already decided should hear it.

AlwaysNear is not a replacement for 911 or local emergency services.
